I'm new to this whole IEM thing. I'm looking to purchase a pair of in-ear monitors because I want something portable but still want that full, rich sound that you would get from headphones. So do IEM's get anywhere near the quality as studio headphones do?

I would say they can, but you'll need to pay more for an IEM that sounds as good as a full-sized can. My UE900s/Westone 3s are still not up to scratch compared to my Denon D2Ks, even though I paid more for the two IEM's.
