Hi all,

I'm getting a pair of the HD6XXs soon, and I wanted to get the most out of them. I am in the market for an amp that will properly power them.

I've found this http://a.co/g9vUmMG Micca OriGen G2 that is listed as a "Preamp"

Now I am relatively new to "HiFi" audio, and googling the differences between a preamp and amp has lead me down a rabbit hole that I don't quite understand.

Bottom line question is: Will the OriGen G2 give me enough power and get me the best sound out of my HD6XX for under a $200 price range? My source will mainly be a PC with a MSI Gaming 5 motherboard (https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/Z97-GAMING-5.html)

Thank you!

I have the original Origen+ and was very happy with it, it's a DAC and a headphone amp combined, you wouldn't need anything else to drive your cans, I also used mine to drive a set of 2.1 desktop speakers.

I never could get it to work on the USB connection, lots of pops and clicks, but that was caused by my PC motherboard / USB ports and not the DAC specifically; once I connected it with an optical / TOSLINK cable it was fine.

Unfortunately after about 15 months the headphone stage on the Origen+ is dying (the line-out to the speakers is still fine) and I'm probably going to replace it with the Topping D30 DAC and a Magni 3 headphone amp, although Topping does have their own "matching" headphone amp, the A30.

If you go to the Origen website the only link they have to buy the unit from is Amazon, but they've been showing the unit as "Currently unavailable" for 5-6 weeks now, plus I've read some posts online that indicate there're "issues" with the company, so I don't know where you can buy a unit from at the moment.

Good luck!
