I want to buy an old Pioneer cd changer like a PIONEER PD-M70 or PIONEER PD-M450... Do I need to use a Receiver if I'm only going to listen through the headphone output?

If it has a headphone jack, that's all you should need. I'm assuming they have a volume control?

It will likely sound better out of an older vintage amp or receiver than the headphone out of the CD player.
