Do I need a headphone amp if I have a "normal" amp?

There's a nice set of cans for sale, okay they're AKg 271's over on "For Sale," that I'm thinking about replacing my CD780's with. I have a AV710 going into a Sansui 7070 - are very sold tube-sounding amp. If I run the AKG's out if it is there any issue with bass response? Also, is it worth the $100 to upgrade over the 780's?

Thanks.

BTW I'm also thinking about the EM9's just because they're so cool and could be a nice gift. Is the audioquality comparable to either of the above?

Vintage amp, tubes at that, makes me think that this wouldn't be a good match for modern low-impedance cans like the K271S. Old 2kOhm or 600 ohm stuff perhaps (my old HD424s seem to like warmer-sound sources), but not <100 ohm cans like these.
