A friend of mine is a mountain climber and needs a player that has a large storage capacity as well as the ability to be powered by alkaline batteries, since he won't have the ability to charge the player on the mountain. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

if you need to use "regular" batteries your options are few.

There is a player called "Nedi" that uses 4 AA's, uses a regular notebook hard drive, even has slots for compact flash and smart memory reading. Rob has one (robert@dapreview.com)

Older Archos units used regular AA rechargables, if I remember..

Your best best is to use an Apple Ipod and get the Belkin battery pack which takes 4 AA batteries and powers iPod for 15-20 hours. pretty efficient.

Else, you could go with a Creative NX/Xtra player and stock up on extra Lithium batteries, but at $50 a pop... eh..
