I searched this site and decided easier to start a new thread.

I want to recable my Ultrasone 580's
I also picked up a few turntables recently and would love to rewire them completely.

where to start?

I have obvious need of a soldering set...
2in1 SMD Soldering ReWork Station HOT AIR & IRON 852D+ on eBay.ca (item 150418441768 end time 05-Mar-10 20:08:42 EST)

HAKKO 936-12 SOLDER STATION WITH 4 EXTRA TIPS INCLUDED! on eBay.ca (item 380067938658 end time 21-Mar-10 03:41:29 EDT)

something else?

I would actually like to make my own cables as well, which makes me think the first one with the heat gun may be better?

I would like a soldering tool that I can use for making cables, recabling headphones and one day get in to DIY amplifiers and such. Do I need more than one soldering tool? or is there where the different tips come into play?

From my understanding, a soldering iron for building cables usually goes up to 40W while the recommended voltages for electronics for amps/dacs/etc. usually ranges from 15-30W...

You might want to consider a cheap $10 iron for whichever project you're least likely to do. Ah, that is unless you have a temperature-controlled iron -sorry.

Tips are all based on preference, and I'm pretty sure that they don't really change too much in terms of temperature. Chisel tips usually get heated faster though.
