I just bought some 12 awg teflon silver plated wire off ebay, it has a14 awg stranded core, will this be sufficient enough to use with the plugs pic'd above?

thanks!

Not really an answer but have you seen this site before?

I'd be much more tempted to order some cable from this guy than to trust something I bought of Ebay when it comes to high-voltage power.

Looking forward to seeing the finished cable either way.

ya, Thats the site Im following sinstructions too, except I didnt use the air hose, I was going to but it would bee too large of a diamter to fit the plugs.

Im actually done with the cord itself, I didnt use the rubger isulation air hose,
I was afriad it may be too large for the plug entry.

How important is it? ive never made a power cord, though sifting through audiogon Ive seen the same types using teflon wire and just tech flex. So I dont know if rubber isulation is important?

The look is very close to HighFlyin9 (inpsired me to make one), except it just has an outer later of 1/4" black flex over everything. interconnects I am very familiar with Power cables I am not this is my first

!!!

I have nothing to use it with so Ill use it on my computer.

You make some nice cables RnB180. I'm sure that this one will be up to your high standards.

This brings up a question for me...Do these fancy power cords actually make a difference in the sound? If so, why? Is it measureable? To say that I'm doubtful is an extreme understatement. The audio signal doesn't flow through them after all. Or is it just an audiophile thing? Someone please enlighten me.

I am kind of wondering the same thing. In RnB's case, it seems to be more for experience than need, but I don't get how a 2ft cable can affect the power that has gone through many many feet of crappy house wire and power wires outside. Maybe the wire used in houses and such are not that bad, but can 2 ft make that much of a difference?

-John (and sorry to take away from your cable thread)

Nice finish on the cord. Did you say each wire is 12 or 14 AWG actual wire? Do you have a third wire for ground and in what configuration?

It doesn't look like you used VH audio recommended Belden 83802 or their non-plated version. If you used finely stranded silver plated wire in teflon, just understand that this will sound very different from VH cord.

I've made cords from 83802 and wire similar to what you used, and IMO, what makes VH audio cord sound different, and better, is the small strand count (each strand is very thick, not fine stranding like others), tinned copper (hate tinned anything for IC, but seems great for power cord), and large AWG. VH flavor 4 is basically 9 AWG per leg, and it does make a difference.

Also, using or not using a braided shield, floating or not floating one end of the shield, how far shield is from conductor, make big differences in sound.

actually its teflon insulated stranded silver plated copper, I twisted the L and N counter clockwise wrapped in chrome flex and twisted the ground around both L/N in an opposite clockwise direction and wrapped another layer of flex,

its 12 awg wire with insulation but actual 14 awg bare wire.

ran continuity checks,
plugged it in my computer, nothing blew up, so I think Im safe
