DIY mp3 player / DAP? Got a link !

my problem with all of the current diy DAPs is that all of them rely on a dedicated chip to do all the decoding (STA013, VLSI chips, usually). This generally means that the only codec that's supported is MP3, although some of the newer ones support more. The PIC microcontroller used in most (if not all) of these designs could not actually handle MP3 decoding.

btw, there's a DIY audiophile DAP project at head-fi that'll be just as functional (if not mroe) as the commercial ones:
