I'm trying to get into this, and I've read the starter article at Tangent. However, browsing several suppliers' websites it seems that some things just don't translate very well. I'd like to be able to talk to someone about stuff to buy and where to buy. If you could shoot me an e-mail that would be great. Thanks.

Hello Charles,

started with DIY stuff this year and I am very satisfied with RS Components :
htttp:/www.rsonline.nl ,they deliver even the smallest orders for free.
Searching for the right components is time consuming but worth it.
If you go to http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/ you fill find meta for components and a lot of information about DIY in general, they are specialized in pro audio stuff, my main thing.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Willem.
