I payed a visit to that local hifi dealer today and had the chance to
listen to the phones hooked up to a pair of Linn solo monoblocks
and their partnering Klimax pre-amp using Linn,s CD12 as the
source...About £20000 worth of kit I think.
That solo /Klimax set up makes a fine headphone amp..hehe.
A definite improvement on the CD23/Rega Elicit combo[Bloody well hope so too
].
Anyway the the views of the retail business owner on the phones were based on a short audition of about 15-20 mins
of listening.
His basic observations were that there was some slight recessing
in female vocals and a small amount of 'tizz' in part of the upper
frequency spectrum coupled with some control issues in the bass
department.
A quick comparison with the stax 4040 system confirmed his views here but he felt his views were more based on his predominant speaker listening experience.
Also by comparison he felt that the stax set up to be a little more congested in sound...But to be fair to the stax it was not fed
by the same source so in my view that probably accounted for
this feeling[Got to defend the 4040s as I own a set ..hehe].
Overall though it was thumbs up and pretty well confirmed my
own observations.........Phew I was stressing over this audition!
I did ask whether I could borrow that Linn system though
..He was having none of it hehe
