The γ1's WM8501 DAC chip only has unbalanced output. If you want balanced you'll have to build a conversion circuit based on a chip like the DRV134, or use a transformer.

Thanks AMB, I didn't even know that chips like that existed. In fact it looks like what I was planning to build (but with discrete components). Is there a chance for a possible Balanced Module for the gamma1 in the future?

Also, TPA sells the bare boards, and they're never sold out. Assuming you're not too lazy to order up the (supplied) BOMs and stuff the boards yourself...

How do I order just the pcb? All I see are the kits/assembled stuff. Trust me if i could build a buffalo dac from scratch, its a project well worth undertaking

TPA doesn't offer the Buffalo bare board, but their other DAC's are available as pcb only.
