Well... Not much experience, but I wanna make this a good experience since I'm a 4th year Electrical Engineering student and I can always ask my dad to help me out if I need anything, he's really good with these stuff since he's a EE and ME graduate. The Cmoy is where a lot of people start and can easily be built for under $50 and is a great intro to DIY. Tangents guide at Audiologica is a good place to start and his site has all sorts of great info for a beginner.
