Perhaps somebody can point me to a thread that talks about this, because my searches aren't turning anything up; but I strongly suspect this has been addressed before.

I got a pair of Shure E3Cs for Christmas. Great, but ... when I hook them up to my Archos Recorder, I can hear the disk spin up. I'm considering buying an iPod, but will I still hear this with my E3Cs?

I haven't ever heard this with my Grado SR80s or with my sealed Senn 212 Pros ...

I have never noticed it on my 4G iPod or my iRiver iHP-140. My recently returned Karma

had pretty bad when first spinning up. I can't say for sure yet, but I never noticed it until I was using my Karma.

I'll have a listen later on (always looking for an excuse to wear my E3Cs!) and let you know.

Well, I definately don't hear it with my iPod. Unfortunately, my iRiver is all boxed up.

So:
iPod=quiet
Karma=noisy (just during spin-up before a song starts - I think it's made up for with it's gapless playback, because you'll NEVER hear it again until you stop the player).
iHP-140=I think it's quiet, but can't say for sure.
