Have anybody used the Burson discrete opamps before? how good are they?

Or maybe the old style 990?

Thanks for any info

I've always wondered about how the John Hardy op-amps would work in a headphone amp. Anyone have any experience with them?

But if the user didn't like them, they might just return the chip in 7 days and don't say a word (they didn't lose anything after all).....

I suppose people use the 990 in pro equipment all the time, are they good? They are not that expensive, $50 a piece isn't that much considering the output current capability is enough to drive even 32 Ohm phones... By using two 990 you basically get an all-discrete Cmoy. Bias them into class A then you get a discrete PPA without the need for a buffer stage.

Dear audiocats,

have you done a search on headfi or google ? When I do, the thread I posted on headfi comes up

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=232012

I'm still trying to finish the install in my system, so my story's not completed yet. But such a search produces LOTS of posts commending them, so I will do what they advised and then post my results. I hope you will do the same!

good luck with your DYI

I wasn't really looking into the Burson (too expensive

and that oversea purchasing thing is not very encouraging for me), the 990 was my main interest -- cheaper, higher output current (to avoid a buffer stage), can be purchased in the US.......and when I searched for 990 on head-fi all the Beyer stuff came up, no info about 990 op amps

Since you are already using the Burson, do you think they are worth the money? considering they are about 8 times the price of OPA637......(637 are $11/ea. on ebay)

Thanks for any info
