600Ohm non Manufaktur 2005 DT770 has diodes installed on drivers, does 250 Ohm version have them as well and would it be better to ditch them for SQ sake? For the record my 600Ohm Manufaktur DT880 doesn't have any?

Those are protection zeners. They prevent excess voltage from damaging the voice coils, which are quite fragile.

I didn't know they were still using them on 600-ohm drivers. My 1980 version DT880 has them, as does my 1990 version DT990 - both 600-ohm.

Edit: For non-geeks, a zener diode is a diode that only operates above a particular voltage. At normal listening levels, electrically speaking, these aren't really even in the circuit.

Thanks a lot for this info, makes me wonder what that "diodes" removal service for Ultrasone folks actually buy them?

People pay to have the diodes removed from ultrasones?

People do a lot of crazy stuff i guess.
