Where can I get one of these optical digital cables that plug into the headphone/line out jack of my player? Are these standard for sony cd players today?

What player are you using it with? Does your player have an Optical S/PDIF? I think you could find an optical cable with toslinks at Radio Shack, but you'll have to also get a toslink to mini adapter to use with your portable. Also, depending on what you are plugging it into, you may need a toslink to mini adapter for the other end as well.
