Differences between Markl D2000 and Markl D5000

Regardless... metal, or plastic... it doesn't seem to harm their sound, which just keeps improving with more and more use.

They now sound great with my DV332... after hours and hours of burn in.

While they do sound better with the SS/Tube hybrid X-CANv8... they still sound great with the DV332. The bass keeps tightening, and the mids and highs keep clearing as they have more and more hours on them.

Hello Markl!
There's only one solution to this debate: take d5000 drivers, put them in d2000 enclosure then a\b with another pair of stock d2000. To perform that, you need to have 2 pairs of d2000 and a pair of d5000.
Or the same thing can be done with 2 pairs of d5000 and a pair of d2000(put d2000 drivers in d5000 and compare with stock d5000)...

Unfortunately, this can't be done. The D2000 earcup is not just the D5000 ear cup made plastic. The screw holes are recessed on the D2000 and the rear of the plastic ring has little posts/extensions to allow the assembly to fit down into the lower screw holes. In other words, you can't put the D2000 ear cups on a D5000 or vice versa.

Hi folks;

I have one of the 1st pairs of D5000s Markl modded for the 2nd mod thread. My housings seem to be plastic, but they sound wonderful.

My ears are sensitive, but it's not that I can't stand normal 6kHz frequencies.

Tony, it seems your conclusion about sibilance residing at higher frequencies is correct; atleast according to this definition.

SIBILANCE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The presence of strongly emphasized s, sh, ch, z, j sounds in speech called sibilants. These CONSONANTs are created by air moving through the vocal tract and being constricted by the position of the tongue and lips.

The SPECTRUM of sibilants is that of NARROW BAND NOISE in the high frequency range (5-10 kHz) and therefore their perception is the first to be affected by hearing loss with age (PRESBYCUSIS). Sibilants may be unvoiced (i.e. without pitch) or voiced (i.e. with an added vibration of the vocal cords).

Listening to the MarkL officially modified D5000 and my own modding of the D2000 (same steps) - they are quite similar in sound and I possibly couldn't tell a difference with a gun put to my head. I know that I enjoy what I hear VERY much with both of them. Probably the best I have ever heard Bjork!

The dampening on the ear cups really takes the material out of the equation. The dampening on the rest of the parts also helps reduce all those nasty vibrations on the head.

Mark, you seem to be suggesting switching cups, which apparently won't work. QQQ is suggesting actually swapping the drivers themselves. is there a reason why that approach wouldn't work?

M3NTAL,
Does your modded D2000 have the stock cable?

I know you're excited with your newly modified D2000 polarwarrior, but stop bumping these threads from the graveyard.
