After looking in the mirror in the mall today I realized I wasnt the most inconspicuous person around with these huge headphones on my head. So I was thinking of getting on ear headphones to use and wanted to know if there were any huge differences between on ear headphones and over the ear headphones, mainly in the sound department.

Over-Ear headphones go around your ear while on ear sits on top of your ear. Isolation is better on over-ear than on ear. And bass response too (but not usual on most cases)

Not really. It all depends on the user and the qualiy of the headphones themselves. Some On-ears are better than Over-Ears. it depends.

Some over ears fit more like on ears.
 
Depends on how big or small your ears are and how big or small the headphones are relative to that.

True. I'm more comfortable using on-ears than over ears.
