Difference between the Vishay-Dale RN55C and RN55D resistors

According to the datasheet, the difference is its performance in undesirable situations. For instance, the power ratings for the D's are stated at 70degC, while the C's are at 125degC. Basically, I think it just works better under greueling military environments.

C, D, and E specify the range for the resistor's temperature
coefficient.

If I remember correctly:

D is plus or minus 100 ppm/C

C is plus or minus 50 ppm/C

E is plus or minus 25 ppm/C,

The lower the temp. coef., the better; but it probably won't
matter if you resistors don't get
very hot.
