I have both an onboard spdif out and the chaintech AV-710 spdif out. Is there going to be a difference in quality between the two (once I get my digital receiver that is)?

Thank you.

P.S. Sorry if this has been posted before, the search engine isn't working for me ( I keep getting errors).

Try both when you get your reciever and keep using whichever you thinks sounds best. Genius, huh?

That would be a very good idea if we were not rearranging our media room. I want to put the AV-710 (if I can use onboard spdif) in the pc in there before we have it up and stowed away. I'm not sure how long it will take me to get the reciever so I'd like someone who already knows to tell me the difference.

"Intel 82801HB ICH8" would be the southbridge chip on the motherboard, not the actual audio solution. The audio is provided by ADI, Realtek or Sigmatel, but I can't tell for sure which, as Dell specs are pretty vague. If I had to guess, I'd say it uses Sigmatel.
