Hello,

I'm looking for a comfortable, all-around pair of cans for mostly at-home listening, unamped from my iPod or laptop. It looks like a few Sennheiser models have been discounted to be around the same price range, and I'm wondering what the differences between them are.

HD 238 - $84 (reg $140)
HD 280 - $74 (reg $150)
HD 555 - $85 (reg $170)

also was considering these.
Grado SR-60i - $79
Grado SR-80i - $100
Alessandro MS-1i - $110
Audio Technica ATH-AD700 - $91 (reg $250)

Sound quality and comfort are probably the most important factors, since I don't have a preference as to open/closed (I have a pair of EP-630s for portable/isolation use).

You can get an idea of what I listen to from my last.fm (a little bit varied, but I'd say mostly classic rock-ish stuff.)

Advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

The grado sr-60 is a fantastic choice, i would step it up towards the sr-80 for the price difference. I would also HIGHLY reconmend the Audio Technica AD700, it is super comfortable and the sound quality you get from them is better than the HD555. The HD555 ive read tends to be a bit bland, the AD700 has a nice kick to it.

The choice is yours.

+1 on AD700, but it lacks bass. Probably not the best for Queen.

If you listen to rock, then the SR60i, SR80i, or the MS1 are all great. Search the forums for "vs." threads.

Happy hunting.
