AKG website doesn't have a difference in MSRP nor specs so it's most likely some kind of dealer strategy, like if the gold units aren't selling well.

I'd look around in the ChiFi IEM thread. You can get better value at that price range with the ones in there although you have to go through more info as many have a boosted low end.
