Hi guys, newbie here...

I recently obtained an EMU 1212m soundcard (the old one with firewire) and a pair of AKG K701 headphones. They're being burned in currently.

I have a Headsix amp, but am thinking of using that with my DAP and getting a proper desktop amp. Is it worthwhile doing so, or will there not be any difference compared to just using the Headsix?

I'm looking at spending around $300, but am willing to pay more if it means not needing to upgrade for the next few years. It would also be good if I could somehow connect my desktop speakers to the amp so that I don't need to keep switching between the headphones and speakers, but this isn't a big issue.

I listen to everything, but mainly rock, instrumental (orchestral, piano, guitar) and lastly pop and metal.

Can you guys recommend a good desktop amp? Thanks!

After hearing the Darkvoice recently, I have to suggest it. Made my HD650's sing! Plenty of power to spare, and surprisingly good sound for the price.

Was a Darkvoice 336i (with RCA tubes)

Darkvoice 332 is supposed to perform extremely well mated with K701. You can get it new for about $400 shipped on ebay. There is a whole thread dedicated on it and you will find many useful information there.

Someone mentioned that the 332 sounds harsh with the 701.

What about the Heed CanAmp? Several people have said that it synergizes well with the 701.
