Hey

First off, thank you Head-Fi, I wouldn't have been able to get this far in my decision without everyone's expertise.

I have been looking for a new pair of headphones for the past few weeks. After a lot of research, I think that the best cans for me are the D2000s.
However, if you know of a better headphone for me based on my needs below, please let me know.

-$200 give or take $20
-boomy (strong bass) [consider me a basshead :p]
-good soundstage
-closed or open (if open, minimal sound leakage)

Other info:
-Will be used with a USB AMP connected to a laptop
-It is VERY important that the highs don't sound harsh/shrill
-I listen to a lot of rock/metal/alternative

Thank you in advance, any input will be much appreciated

Yup D2000 sounds about right for the price range given your criteria. You may also consider Beyer DT770.

Compared to the D2000:
  1. Boomier - DT770 bass not as smooth as D2000
  2. Better Midrange - D2000 midrange is quite a bit sucked out
  3. Worse Treble - DT770 treble is not a smooth as D2000, but D2000 treble can be a bit sibilant at times
  4. Much Better Isolation - Consider the D2000 an open can really - they leak like crazy.
