In Korea I've seen the Denon AH D2000 for about $270 and the Denon AH D5000 for about $560. Quite often for Japanese gear I use pricejapan.
I got my Stax Basic System through pricejapan, as opposed to buying from the cheapest Korean retailer I could find, that offered them at around $700.
Grado, Etymotic, Shure, Westone and Sennheiser (mid to higher end models), can very expensive here.
Audio Technica and AKG tend to be competitively price in general.
I guess a lot depends on exchange rates, especially with the low value of the dollar in recent years. High import taxes, and to a lesser degree VAT have a big impact on prices in Korea.
