Who want to hear what a BASS these miraclous headphones could reproduce, SHOULD hear albums: (1997) "Come My Fantics", (2000) "Dopethrone" or (2010) "Black Masses" of british doom/stoner band
Electric Wizard
Even with EQ is off, the basses are awesome from my AK120
genuine pleasure. With this type of sound I don't need Fostex TH-900, even an amplifier for AK120
(..emotions..)
Need to say, sound from my Cowon J3 (output power = 29 mW / per channel) is also very decent (though not so tight and monolithic, as from AK120). This proves -
these headphones were really made for universal portable use.
Fast comparison: sound from AK120 is more "noble" and "generous", than from Cowon J3, basses, upper bass, lower mids is more tight on AK120.
(pitiful, Iriver doesn't specify output power for AK120/AK100... strange thing to me
)
J3 gives some simpified sound "picture" (at around 10-20% subjectively), but still very musical.
Also, heavy sounds of Electric Wizard not so fatiguing to my ears from AK120 (as it is from J3).
I should notify once more - listening with
EQ is off.

You also have to take into account the sensitivity of a can which is measured in db at 1khtz. Not my area but pretty sure that's the key measurement.
You're right, sensitivity is even more valuable, but I think
