DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)

Sep 26, 2024 at 2:25 PM Post #1,262 of 1,289
Denafrips know the serial number. Denafrips know the FPGA chip version.
I know because I've had an Ares II with the same FPGA chip before.
I have also contacted Alvin from Vinshine , who, on requesting the FPGA details confirmed that 1.8 is the last firmware version for my DAC.
1.6 is not the final firmware for any Ares II dac.
Denafrips are either misinformed or can't be bothered to send me the firmware.
with the loss of Alvin and also Vincent, first-rate customer support and real added value, D has (imo) really become "Chinese" in the sense that I would not be surprised if it converted to producing air conditioners, if the business is more convenient. I confess that after having purchased the P/2/12 (inserted in my studio system) I had thought about the T+ for my main system but -at the moment- I no longer have a feeling for the brand. We'll see

You're just rude at this point, mate. Get a life.
Nope just pointing out the fallacies. But I know for some it's easier to call people names than face reality, so.... 🤷‍♂️

And I see that xenophobia is really kicking in for some now :slight_frown:

Peace :sunglasses:

Just lost track of things… the Denafrips website doesn’t have any info about it:
Were can I find all the Pontus II firmware upgrade versions?
How many versions are available for the Pontus II?
Thanks

I'd message Alvin at Vinshine if I were you. I didn't get much sense/interest out of Denafrips themselves. Probably the best email address is firmware@vinshineaudio.com

What's so hard about asking Denafrips themselves? They actually do respond to questions. They did for me.

They responded to me, too. With incorrect information. They said that version 1.6 was the latest version. 1.6 isn't the latest version, and glitches on every track with a Wiim Pro. When I asked them directly about 1.8 , which is an official Denafrips software release, they bizarrely said that it hadn't been tested. If I hadn't gone directly to Alvin, I would have been forced to sell the dac, and I doubt I'd have bought a Denafrips product again.

Interesting…
Alvin did a superb job, but he is out.
Recognizing that (I am sure they have) I wish to ask Denafrips: is good customer care so difficult to do?!

Note: I have write them a week ago and still have no answer…

My support from Denafrips themselves is opposite that of jhnpennington. Also take into account we only know his side of the story; add the fact the item in question was NOT sold by Denafrips, nor Vinshine audio, so who knows what was done with the unit before it got the OP or if the unit is even registered with Denafrips...
I have just bought a used Ares II, FPGA number EP4CE22F17C8N and my firmware is version v3.12 a22fa1.6. I have contacted Denafrips directly, who told me that this is the latest firmware for my FPGA chip. With it ending in 1.6 I am not so sure, and there is definitely a stutter around 20 seconds that is widely reported with v1.6.
Also interesting this question was never answered by jhnpennington...
Plese show us the info shown under the "Info" tab of the driver software you showed above. And if you bought the item used, Denafrips has no way of knowing what the previous users did with the unit.
Instead...
Away from home for a couple of days now, but bought from a high-end dealer as a trade in from a genuine seller.

Anway...
Note: I have write them a week ago and still have no answer…
Have you contacted them > support@denafrips.com ???

I know when I contacted them my questions were answered the next day. And I've spoken to them a few times here's but one...

I think that just telling them you have a lot of glitches since 1.6 was installed and ask for a correction, you'll get an other answer !
What is the firmware level on new 15th products ?

Are you sure 1.8 was a GA build (for your DAC / Year released) or a build used to resolve specific problems ?
( 1.8 not tested ! may be it was fully tested on newer products but not on previous one )
Denafrips (developer) is able to tell which firmware is the right GA and then, the latest GA is the latest official firmware for a DAC model / year released

Newer GA are probably tested on latest product releases e.g. 12h or 15th only...

GA = General availability (only firmware having got a General Availability status by Denafrips are official builds)
