Hey guys, I'm back again! I just picked up a Dell Mini 9 and am thus far loving the little machine. However, in my quest to tear apart and hack everything I own, I took it apart yesterday, in a quest to find the audio output circuitry. Looking around the headphone jack, all I saw were surface mount components and transistors, no opamps. Am I right in thinking that the Mini 9 has a discrete output stage? I did find one opamp, right next to the power connector (an LM338 or something), but that's on the far opposite corner from the outputs.

Has anyone else taken a look inside their machine and found out anything interesting that can be done?

I bet you won't find any laptop/netbook or even desktop with discrete audio outputs. Opamps are a possibility but in these cases there is normally an integrated IC with the DAC and any other audio funtions like dsp processors and so on.
