If competitive gaming means "as wide and deep soundstage as possible" and "harmonize" means "doesn't change the sound" or "improves the sound (vis a vis imaging)" then stick with the stock pads unless they're so uncomfortable you're losing just from the discomfort.
The AKG pads are asymmetrical to angle the drivers properly, with the thicker sections toward the back to emulate speaker toe in angles. Lose that and some of hte ways that it images will be affected. I've used a K701 with a worn down earpad that barely had an angle to them and for music the cymbals moved from a centimeter or so away from my temples to somewhere between my temple and ear farther out to the side.
AFAIK there are other aftermarket pads that still have that asymmetrical angle shape but I came across one feedback before that some Dekoni or something were sent back because the pair wasn't even close to being identical. That's just one though.
I doesn't mean harmonize by improving or doesn't change the sound.. I have tested dt990, and those stock earpads were so flat and my ears still touching sides, and I had to take off headphones every 10minutes.. Competetive gaming but not by huge cost of comfort..
