Read errors on normally stored CDs are not the issue - it's not the reason to go computer based.
There's nothing in dedicated sources that cannot be achieved in computer based setup. It's just a matter of preference - purely convenience wise. Sound can be good or bad in either option.
If anyone states that one of the options is clearly superior to the other sound quality wise - he just had bad luck with "the other" system.
What's true is that in order to get the desired fidelity level from a computer based system one has to possess substantial understanding of how these things actually work - which apparently is not necessary when dedicated source is used.
