how is the soundblaster live external? any others you would reccomend for more balanced/accurate and more power to drive my headphones? not too expensive. if im asking too much, any upgrade from onboard sound would be great. looking for 100 or less USA dollars. thanks!

I never heard the sound blaster, but I'm pretty happy with my emu-0202 usb. USB powered, servicable headphone out, and fairly portable.

so will a soundcard help improve the quality of the audio i render on my pc? or is that purely done by CPU and doesn't go through the soundcard? i make music on my pc using programs and just wondered if a soundcard would help improve the quality of the music i encode.

thanks!

If you're mixing/creating everything in digital on your computer, the soundcard won't help. It would help with analog to digital conversion and playback (on that machine) though.
