I've glanced through a book "The Dark Side of the Moon - the Making Of the Masterpiece",
by John Harris, 2005.
Here are the relevant excerpts:
In 1994 David Gilmour said:

Nine years later (2003?) David Gilmour commented:

In 2003 Roger Waters listened to the 5.1 remix of "The Dark Side of the Moon"
in a famous studio in Bahamas. - He approved the remix.
Asked about David Gilmour's comments he angrily pre-empted any such idea:

What we miss of Roger is his drive, his focus, his lyrical brilliance - many things. But I do not think any of us would say that music was one of the main ones .... he is not a great musician! |

I had a much better sense of musicality than he did. I could certainly sing in tune much better [laughs]. So it did work very well. |

There's no question that Dave needs a vehicle to bring out the best of his guitar playing. And he's a great guitar player. But the idea, which he's tried to propagate over the years, that's he's somehow more musical than I am, is absolute f...in' nonsense. It's an absurd notion, but people seem quite happy to believe it. |
