So i bought the album when it was new and honestly didn't care for it much. It has to be the coldest album Bowie has done

Probably the only song most would recognize off the album is "i'm afraid of americans"

In any event I listened to it again today by accident (intended to play heroes and missed with the scroll wheel) and i enjoyed it quite a bit.

It definitely was ahead of it's time at original release, but there is a lot here that is now more mainstream. Trent Reznor has definitely listened too it as has DJ Spooky and Mark Ronson.

I'm not ready to pronounce it great yet, but it has definitely moved up the bowie rankings in my collection.

I actually got quite a bit of mileage from that album when it first came out.
I recall enjoying it a lot and then putting it away.
I haven't listened to it in a while now.
Perhaps it's time to spin it up again.

Hated most of it, but Dead Man Walking, Little Wonder and Seven Years in Tibet were good songs.
Not much of it could really be described as jungle, more industrial heavy rock.
I far prefer it's predecessor, Outside.

X2!!

Earthling did sound a wee bit like Bowie was trying too hard.

I pulled it out last night and gave it the first whirl it's had in a while.
I still enjoyed it but it hasn't aged as well as some of his other efforts.

I picked up Outside used this morning for $5, I'll give it a spin.

Thanks

i count 'outside' as among bowie's all time best albums, definitely his best since scary monsters. it's the one overlooked gem in his recent discography.

any fan of david lynch, david cronenberg or william gibson ought to give it an intense listen just for the story/lyrics: this isn't just a concept album, it's the musical equivalent to a graphic novel.

Those are the words is was looking for to describe it now that I have had a few listens. I'm not yet ready to put it with his greatest (mainly because i dont know how it will hold up to repeated listening) like heros or Ziggy, but it is quite good and is definitely superior to Earthling.

Thanks all !
