Yeah, no need to pay more than $10 fur either type of tube. If you buy a tube on EBay that says it has been tested (and the seller lists the testing equipment and the results), and that seller has a good reputation, the odds are you will get a good tube. DO NOT buy tubes that say they are untested and being sold as-is. You will almost never get a good tube this way.

Does this apply to the RCA/JAN tubes? I found some tubes for $10, but the RCA/JAN are $30+ piece.

I haven't had any trouble finding the power tubes for at/around $10 though.

(this one will work as well, correct? I'm new to tubes, but learning new things daily about them)

Thanks,

IMO, the 336i is EASILY worth the extra money. I had a LDM tube amp, and it was noisy, microphonic, and hummed. Also, the DV336i allows lots of fun, cheap, tube rolling options. The 336i is a very nice amp.

My sentiments exactly !

I have not listened to the 336 so I will not comment on it. I had a Little Dot Micro Tube upgraded version. Contrary to what others have posted mine sounded fantastic and I did not hear any hum, distortion, microphonics, etc.

I purchased a second pair of tubes fo $15 and they were sent with the amp. I still think that for $200 or so it is a nice sounding unit which would please many.

Personally I would choose an used Musical Fidelity X-Can V2 over the LDMT which can be had for $140-$190 including S&H.

I have both the 336 and MT. The MT is no match for the 336.
The MT lacks lower mids and bass (quality and quantity).
Even the headphone-out of my DAC does better than the MT.

The power supply for the Micro Tube has to be left on all the time and does not sound its best until 4 or 5 days has passed. There is no reason to turn off the power supply and again, until I just left it on I did not realize how good the Micro Tube could sound. It is like a different amp.

I agree, bass so thick you could cut it with a knive.

And that is really the thing - there have been LOTS of repeated complaints about LD amp build quality, where as the DV amp is solid. That and the ability to easily tube roll with lots of awesome, cheap, easily available tubes make it an absolute no-brainer IMHO - the DV is the better choice.
