So I guess DV336 won't work the same way MPX will when it comes to using 12xx7s in general.
If you want another less expensive tube to use in the 336SE, try getting some 6F8G's with adapters on EBay. The adapters go for $25, and 6F8G's can be had very inexpensively. The 6F8G is basically identically to the 6SN7 except the pinout is different and the 6F8G has a grid cap that must be accommodated with the adapter. But once you have those - good things can happen. I got a pair of Tung Sol VT-99/6F8G's that are identical in construction to the round-plate 6SN7GT's. The round-plate 6SN7GT's? $500/pair NOS. The round-plate 6F8G's? $40/pair NOS.
