Darkest Mellow Desires.

Well, I tell you that you have the DD masters here offering you some advice. I have been busy buying up CD's (ten came today)...wanted to send a big thanks out to DarkAngel, Enverxis, Nacher and others for putting together an outstanding post on Dark Desires V (not to get away from this thread). To steal a bit from what I have gotten off of DD V and from my growing collection that I think would fit in well with what you are looking for:

Tristania: Widow's Weed's (I think the term is "bueaty and the beast...operatic female singer with the gutteral male voice...nice interplay between the soothing and the dark...nice and heavy feel...not as orchestral as later albums like Widow's Glass)
Folkenbach: Very norse/viking folk metal (?) very laid back...I am still working my way through these as they just arrived today.

Good hunting and good luck...

Does jesu count? Maybe the self-titled album, the more recent stuff seem to make metal-oriented people unhappy (in a bad way).

Seeing them on the 19th! Can't wait...

All of the stuff here has been covered in the Darkest Desires threads sometime or another, I've probably got another 10-15 artists to add though.

Procer Veneficus - Black Metal goes acoustic ...
Autumn (Russia) - fairly mellow Gothic Doom band, violin, clean vocals etc
Vali - Acoustic music from Black Metal musicians
Uaral - ^ same as above, has harsh vocals though, hehe and is very "doom".
Negura Bunget - ritualistic black metal, lots of atmospheric pieces and acoustic parts
Lupercalia - darkish neoclassical from Italy
Ataraxia - ^ same as above, female vocals are reaaally high.
Autunna et sa Rose - ^ similar to Ataraxia, albeit from Portugal I think
Fejd - rocking Folk music from metal musicians, it's awesome!
Orne - Dark 70's influenced prog rock from metal musicians, really good.
Stoa - neoclassical / ethereal from Germany, really good
Cocytus - Dark Ambient from Australia, fairly heavy/bassy in places
Lustmord - one of the best Dark Ambient bands
Aesma Daeva - umm, 90's Gothic music from the USA
Antimatter - Trip-Hop from members of Anathema
Avrigus - Ambient Doom Metal band from Australia
Bohren & der Club of Gore - Really dark minimalistic Dark Ambient/Jazz kind of band, sometimes labelled Doom Jazz / Black Jazz.
Chaostar - French band that creates intense musical score-like music
Lumsk - Norweign Folk/Metal band, amazing female vocals
Morgion - USA Melodic Doom/Death band, very high quality stuff
Raison D'être - another great dark ambient artist
Skumring - Norweign Doom similar to 3rd and the Mortal, acoustic in parts

Merely listing artists isn't as helpful as giving a description I know
