All three are great, but if I could keep only one.......Way of all Flesh

I'll be sure to revisit Gojira in the forseeable future again

I say "revisit" because I've listened to them already in the past and should give them a go again soon

But right now, here's what I'm enjoying:

Heavy and monolithic with a bit of prog influence that can be considered in the same vein as Mastodon, Isis & Cult of Luna (at least imho)

The Ocean - Precambrian (2007)

Absolutely agree, The Ocean should be on the short list of great new progpressive metal groups, "aeolian" is also a good album by them

Quite simply it is one of the greatest dark metal albums of the golden era, pagan in all ways with prominent but tasteful keyboard, many other unusual instruments used with varied tempos, paints a vivid chilling dark landscape. The extreme vocals are quite evil sounding with a distant almost washed out effect. Some purists will say too much keyboard will always sound cheesey, but I think NM use them skillfully to paint dark landscapes and they blend in nicely overall.

Nokturnal Mortum was a prolific dark metal collective that spawned many other groups from the motherland and various members have side projects under different names. I think we have sung the praises of this album going all the way back to original darkest desires I thread, essential album

Their frosty, raw, folkish Black Metal is amazing.

Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue with the Stars

My opinion of BAN was still unformed but this seals it: they rock. This is epic BM.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Black Cascade

Best BM coming from the US nowadays. Nature's haunting, relentless, drone BM.

Alongside with Deathspell Omega this bands are the best Black Metal, IMHO.

Yes fine list by JAPC

I don't have the newest Drudkh shown, but do have first 3 albums and while I like them there really was little difference or development between albums so I never kept up with newest work.......I will eventually have to see what they are up to now. You could say this about many groups that albums tend to all sound the same, but in some case it literally is almost true

The new Blut Aus Nord will be obtained eventually, I have all previous work which is of a very high level, never let me down yet

Wolves in the Throne Room have finally won me over with latest album shown, I initially though they were just a Burzum clone but now have changed my mind find them strong advocates for current modern dark metal genre.

Speaking of Burzum...

I'm quite excited what Varg has in store for us folk now that he's out of prison

Amon Amarth
Classic debut album released as special 2 CD version: original album with 1 bonus track + 2008 live remake of album.
Deluxe package 4 panel double digipak, have placed my order......... \m/

Amorphis
Anyone have the new album "skyforger"?
I like previous album "silent waters" but samples from new work sound softer tone overall...........

The new Amorphis is very good but unfortunately the sound is too compressed.

Finally got this album......as I suspected very good, has long 8-10 minute long songs that are similar in style to recent Enslaved. Raw black metal elements combined with progressive sections skillfully blended into a hybrid modern dark metal sound, have not yet been let down by Blut Aus Nord and will continue to be a buyer of future works
