EDGE OF SANITY - Crimson II
The ultimate epic death metal masterpiece! "Crimson II" is fully written and recorded by the mastermind Dan Swano (Nightingale, Bloodbath, etc.). This the anticipated follow-up to Crimson who set the blueprints of death metal thereafter! 45 minutes of cutting edge death metal from one of the most talented and influential metal composers ever!

DIMMU BORGIR - Death Cult Armageddon
Dimmu Borgir return with a supreme opus of pure blackness and aural annihilation. D.C.A. is one of the most highly anticipated albums in the world of extreme music, and it's guaranteed to please the legions of Dimmu fans. Vehement guitar work, haunting keyboard melodies, dynamically precise drumming and dour/acidic vocals with a touch of melodic/operatic vocals characterize Dimmu's infectious and abysmally seductive sound. Dimmu Borgir continues down the path towards total music domination.

IRON MAIDEN - Dance Of Death
Building up from Brave New World, Dance of Death offers classic Maiden loaded with amazing harmonies, riffs, solos and Druce's (still) godly voice. At the same time they perfectly blend in newer elements such as renaissance folkish melodies! Up The Irons!

I'm going to give the new Iron Maiden a try. I haven't really cared for their past few albums. I was a die-hard Maiden Fan back in the day of Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave. Hope this one is good.

I'll be getting the new Dimmu Borgir as well.

Also upcoming is the new Morbid Angel-"Heretic" and King Diamond-"The PuppetMaster"

Who cares how old they are? The album is not just pretty good, it's the best they've done since Seventh Son, none of their other albums since even compare to DoD. It doesn't sound quite the same as their classic 80's albums, but it's just as good. As long as they want to keep playing great music, I'll keep listening.

Did I just make a mistake...............

I ordered the Jewel case version of Dimmu Bogir DCA , but now I see The End has listed digipak version soon to arrive.

I vaguely remember hearing somewhere that digipak will have 1 bonus track..........

I get the sinking feeling I should have kept my powder dry till digipak arrived.

Don't be ***too*** sorry until you hear the album itself... IMO, in spite of all the hype around it, both EDT and PEM are better albums. I've already listened to it a couple of times and got the same feeling as with COF's Damnation and a Day - good album, "politically correct", nice touch with the orchestra - let's say all in all an 8 out of 10 - but not the BALLS of their best works...

It just happened I listened to it after Arch Enemy's *Anthems Of Rebellion* and - believe it or not - DCA sounded a little dull to me - which is not exactly a compliment according to comparative expectations from both groups... Anyway, Arch Enemy was a pleasant surprise (well, not quite a "surprise") - this last album with Angela Gassow as soloist really kicks *****, better IMO than Wages of Sin and Burning Bridges. This lady growls as good as, if not better, than most male "growlers" but thinking of it I would have preferred her to sing at least part of the vocals in clean voice - than we would have had a "beauty and the beast" style vocals performed by the same soloist - wouldn't it be cool?

Edge of Sanity - Crimson II. Here are some links to a few threads about it in Swano's forum at Ultimate Metal:

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=106650

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=109560

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=106083

IMO, it's a very good album, on par with Purgatory Afterglow and The Spectral Sorrows, but not as awesome as Crimson I... I also would have liked more clean vocals and less growls - well I guess it's a matter of taste... Yet, too high expectations to rise by calling it Crimson II... Incantation, Covenant of Souls and Aftermath are my highlights.

I know you people are sick and tired of my recommendations, but I still have to do some more promoting of Asmegin - Hin Vordende Sod & So
wink.gif
. Even though I did consider this album just ok during the few first listens, I have now found myself totally addicted to it. I am having a hard time to listen my Death Cult Armageddon, as I always have to listen to Asmegin one more time, and then again and again. It's really rare for me to listen for the same album for six times in a row, but can't help it. The band members are quite young and the album is just a debut, but it features almost a dozen guest musicians like Sareeta from Ram-Zet doing female vocals and violing and Lars.A.Nedland from Borknagar (?) for clean male vocals and so on. I wouldn't be surprised if Asmegin would be one of the best known folk metal acts after they have released 3 albums or so.

After Death Cult Armageddon, the third album trying to get in my player is Melechesh - Sphynx. Black Metal with strong arabic influences with occasional use of oriental percussions and instruments just has such an unique sound that it clearly rises above the gray black/death metal selection.

Wonder if the-end has these?

A list of selected new releases :

BOMBEROS - Bringing Down 7" EP

This is the real deal.
Five tracks of frothing-at-the-mouth oldschool punk.

Limited edition re-issue Digipak with bonus track

AT THE GATES - With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness RE-ISSUE DIGIPAK

LAMENTED SOULS - Essence Of Wounds 7" EP

The Essence Of Wounds : the debut EP of Lamented Souls; one of the longest running and most anticipated Norwegian underground acts. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of classic heavy metal acts, such as St. Vitus, Black Sabbath, Candlemass and so on, Lamented Souls deliver a fine brand of rocking doom metal. Riffs and hooks that engrave themselves on your subconscious, pounding rhythms and of course classic soulful singing, courtesy of none other than Simen Hestnæs, widely revered for his work with acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar and Arcturus. Even if the band build on what these days are regarded as ancient tradition, their sound can only be described as unique, and utterly compelling. A-side Essence of Wounds is classic doom of the gravest order; . On the flip-side Sprukken Maske (Shattered Mask) is just as heavy metal as it is unlike anything you have ever heard before, not least thanks to Hestnæs expressive vocal delivery. Essence Of Wounds is an essential release to all metal fanatics

SIX FEET UNDER - Bringer Of Blood LIMITED EDITION

Chris Barnes (ex Cannibal Corpse) returns with yet anther Six Feet Under record. Bringer of Blood delivers 11 tracks of death metal crushing with thrash / rock feel and very grim lyrical content. this is the limited edition two CDs set, featuring a bonus DVD the making of Bringer of blood and housed in a gatefold Digipak with 28 page booklet!

ALAS......................ArChaos is correct in his asessment
DCA is a slight disappointment. Easily the most diverse and experimental Dimmu album, sounding a bit like Arcturus "sham mirrors" at times with some spoken word samples. Unfortunately it cannot match the dark power/majesty of EDT which still reigns supreme as Dimmu's finest hour. There is a cool part at the end of one song where sustained vocal morphs into swarm of flies.

DCA is like PEM with more variation and special effects, also not sure who did vocals on EDT but they are much better and darker vs DCA..........wonder why all the reviews I've read for DCA are all 10/10? So very much worth keeping, and you have to keep things fresh and innovative to be relavant force after 10+ years (perhaps too many chefs stirring the pot now with 6 band members), but not the very best Dimmu has done.....8/10

(which probably means they will be more popular than ever and sell more copies of DCA than all other albums combined, he he)

Just received Soria Monia Slott by Dismal Euphony. One of their earliest (other CDs by same are Autumn Leaves, All Little Devils, Python Zero and Lady Ablaze).

On Track 6 - so far sounds good to me - interesting textures - though I like to listen four or five times before I make up my mind.

Sort of beauty and the beast operatic/melodic metal - Tristania meets CoF, only faster - and just 42 minutes long.

DarkAngel - you have/had some of the above (March post) - comments???

I had two DE albums (not the one you have) and though they were just OK, ended up selling them because they would never be played............I have too many other better beauty/beast dark metal CDs to play.

The CD artwork is pretty cool.
