Damage headphones?

So i was told today by someone that if i ran a HD650 through my computer directly..without an amp i will be damaging them?...is this true?
what doesnt make sense is...it wont be loud enough..hows this damage em?

Higher possibility of killing your soundcard than your HD650 with too high volumes. Anyway before either of that would happend it would sound so bad that you would loosen up on the volume.

Should be no problem, unless you drive to insane distortion levels over time...
It will just not perform its best

It's an open thread on an open forum with an open question. That's an open invitation, so you did invite him. Just because an individual invitation wasn't made to one person doesn't mean they aren't covered by the encompassing one.

In response to your question, I think that your man was just trying to get you to pony up and pay for an amp as well as the headphones. The HD650 is very limited out of a soundcard but it won't be damaged and should still sound quite nice.
