DAC vs. DLC?

i've never heard of the term "direct linear conversion"... Are you referring to delta-sigma/1-bit DACs?

16 bit DAC's were the orignal type of DAC. In most low-end equipment, they have been replaced by delta-sigma DAC's because they are cheaper. However, most high-end DACs still use the older and more expensive multibit DACs. multibit DAC's acutally have many advantages over delta sigma DACs, such as greater accuracy, less jitter, and no built in analog stages (the analog stages in multibit dacs are made using digital processes, really suck, and can not be bypassed) So if you were only to judge your cd player based on the type of converter, then you actually have a very good DAC...

However, what's more important is the specific DAC being used, and how its being used...i don't know anything about your specific cd player
