Hi folks,
I have had for several years the Fostex HP-AC8 headphone amp / DAC (AKM4399) and is pretty good and versatile. I was using it mainly with Beyerdynamic T1.2 and T5P.2.
Last year I purchased the Violectric V200 for another room along with the Schiit Modi MB. The additional power was welcome to drive the T1 with more control and authority. But the soundstage was not that great and tamed. I got an integrated XMOS DAC 24/192 card for the V200 and I'm back with a much more opened soundstage and live sound. Multibit DAC is smoother, more polite and has a better instrument positioning and deeper soundstage. But I prefer the wider and more in your face soundstage of the onboard card (PCM I believe) and like the AKM4399 sounds. The treble sparkle is much better. Modi MB sounds too dark and "polite" with the V200. If I would have a significant upgrade while retaining a brighter sound what would you recommend ? Yggy ? Chord Hugo\Qutest? Thanks
