Hi everyone,

I've recently decided to downgrade to a DAC w/ preamp, with both XLR and RCA outs (I need XLR for my poweramp and RCA for my subwoofer). My currently (short) list includes a Benchmark DAC-1 USB and a Slim Devices Transporter. Can anyone throw some more suggestions over in the sub $1500 (preferably sub $1000) range?

Also -- XLR is not a necessity, but it would be much preferred.

Oritek Zhalou has pre out option but not XLR by default.

When you say "preamp", do you just need pre-outs using digital input, or do you also require analog inputs (in the traditional preamp sense)?

For DAC with RCA + XLR outputs, you have : PS Audio Digital Link III, Stello Da100 Signature, Tube Audio Design Dac 2009 (TADAC) which also includes a headphone jack, Lite Dac 68, Lite DAC 38 and the Cambride Audio Azur 840C cdp/dac

Of all these, the TADAC 2009 can also serve as a preamp (line input).

I mean just having pre-outs with digital input. Analog input is not necessary.

if balanced output is not a necessity, Monarchy NM24 is said to be an exceptional value (tube dac + SS dac + tube line amp) for 1080$ (on audiogon).
