[Turnaround]

anyone recommend a DAC or cd player that's got a lot of ummph for rock & roll -- van halen, ac/dc, ozzy osbourne -- where a marshall amp sounds like a marshall amp ? budget would be say $1K or so. Thanks.

don't try and color your sound with source material- you'll regret it later. get your "oomph" from your headphones and amps. since you like tubes and own grados, that should really do fine. high-end Grados + a high current tube should be more than enough!

i'd never, ever want to color my sound with source materials. it may sound good for some cans, but it'll sound like crap with others.
