Hello all, I was wondering is there any difference in using a SPDIF input or a USB input on a FIIO E17. I just found a spare mini toslink cable so I deciding weather to use SPDIF or USB to Westone 4 IEMS.

Hey, I am pretty new here but I have purchased an E17 and as such have been doing a lot of reading. The main difference is that if you go through the USB input you will get  (max): 24bit / 96kHz quality where as if you are running SPDIF and assuming your audio out put is capable you can get SPDIF Support (max): 24bit  / 192kHz. So arguably you will get a higher quality sound from the SPDIF. This is assuming also that you are using high bitrate music. Also, toslink optical is less likely to get interference from the cable because it is optical. This is likely negligible in most cases but over long wired coax SPDIF connections could come into play. I hope this information is accurate and if it is not I urge someone to correct it. Cheers ! - Dave-
