Okay, so I've currently got an X-Fi XtremeGamer. I was originally going to mod it using cotdt's guide, but then I discovered it uses a different op amp package than the other cards. If somebody knows what package it uses and where to get an adapter, that'd be great (on the same topic, does LME4986=LM4562, cause both are available on National's website?).
Moving on, I'm waffling between buying a new sound card or getting a separate DAC and using the digital out on my X-Fi. On the soundcard side I'm inclined towards the Prelude and on the DAC side I'm looking at the Zero (with HDAM). Would there be a significant difference between the two options, SQ wise? Or should I just go with the cheaper option?
