A used Chord 2Qute would be my recommendation. (Since it's by far the best DAC I've owned so far.)

However, you need an external amp for it.

The Hugo is basically the same DAC as the 2Qute, but with different features: battery power without galvanic isolation, headphone amp, etc. The current US retail price is much higher ($2,000 vs $1,300), so you'd definitely have to get it used to stay within $1,200. Some say the 2Qute sounds better than the Hugo.

I'm using mojo, pairs pretty good with th900. Sounds warm, and improves the mids a bit.
