All roon users! how do you get a roon server, I know there is a subscription fee which cost 144$ a year or for lifetime it's same cost as K17.
How are you using Roon? Are you paying yearly or bought the licence for life time?
Is there an alternative?

I am paying lifetime.
But the main question - to try it first. find some 2month or 3month trial. Or pay for a year. During first year you can switch to lifetime.

For me, there is no alternative, as I am listening local collection, Tidal, Qobuz - Roon just combine it.
Also I like that in all devices, even when I switch one to another (e.g. Fiio K17 to another one, or when I moved to K17), my experience stays the same. Same interface. All the same. Just different device.
With roon you don't have more problem that some devices have excellent apps, and some - not usable.

I have a home server running proxmox. I run many LXC containers, plex. Wireguard, aaar stack, pihole , etc. It’s all running on a small 1 L HP.

I was easily able to spin up a small LXC with a few cores and four gigs of ram. Installed room on it, mounted a Samba share from my Trunas storage where my music is. Then pointed room to that directory, it scanned and it’s been working flawlessly for 2 1/2 years.

I’m I’m still paying monthly, which is stupid and I was just waiting to see if a coupon popped up for lifetime

Unless you have no idea what you’re doing please don’t waste your money. I’m dedicated hardware for your room server.

Build a ROCK or buy a Nucleus, get a lifetime sub :)

The K17 sounds great with my HD800S on SH Gain. Brings some good fullness to it while keeping the awesome wide soundstage.
Very impressed.

The networking is absolutely painful. If I switch off of Roon to a different input, then come back a couple hours later, it will not find it. The only way it will is to completely shut the device down and then start it up. The device is amazing but the networking is not great.

WiFi is 5 by 5 here, Roon is quick and responsive, no drops…

I wonder how the synergy with a Violectric HPA V222 is… I need warmth but i dont think i want tubes, or maybe perhaps a Lyr+

I have been using Roon for about 5 years now. I started with a 2 month trial and I was convinced with Roon's capacities. Then I bought the Nucleus because I wanted a simple and proper server/streamer solution. Now I pay the yearly subscription fee 141 €
I use Roon on a daily basis so for me it's definitely worth the investment. Although there may be cheaper solutions I stick with Roon because its versatility, the Roon interface, all my music on one platform (Tidal, Qobuz and local) and Roon Arc so I can listen to my music in the car and on the go.
Now all my devices at home are Roon Ready/Tested, it was also one of the main reasons I purchased the K17.

Plexamp is essentially the same thing and better in many ways, but you can't integrate other music services into it. Also doesn't work with this device yet, obviously. You can build a Ropieee tho.

FiiO. Please look into Qobuz Connect support. If the K17 already has Roon Ready support, why can't we do a firmware update so we can do Qobuz Connect. I hate having to use ROON to stream instead of Qobuz. Can this be done? It's getting added to major streaming devices from Eversolo to Wiim.

Hi, i am sorry that K17 doesnt support Qobuz connect. Unlike the streamer eversolo, Wiim, the K17 is essentially a DAC/AMP. Streaming functionality is, to a certain extent, an added bonus. Most of our efforts have been focused on the DAC/AMP functions. However, this does not mean that streaming functions are unimportant. As far as we know, ROON and Airplay already provide a good experience. Due to platform limitations, it is currently difficult for us to add Qobuz connect.

I'm really happy with this device. If you are able to add those connect features in the future for some users that would be great. I'm currently using it plugged into my Mac and switching back and forth between USB and streaming to use roon has been flawless. It's been a long time since I bought a product that has worked this well

Completely different approach

With Tidal / Qobuz - Phone is only control, but players stays inside device. And this require resources inside device.
With Roon ready - player is inside Roon Server, and device (endpoint) just convert the input stream, like from other digital sources.
RAAT is a little bit more complicated, but this is - too show the principle difference between supporting Roon and Tidal/Qobuz.

I am playing tidal/qobuz via Roon - and super happy

Ok guys. Thanks for that. So my options are therefore Roon and integrate Qobuz into Roon OR buy a Qobuz Connect streaming transport.

I normally connect my K17 to my DAP or MacBook via USB but I don't get the artwork showing. And I'd kind of like to not have to wear the battery down on these devices when I listen to music daily.
