I really like alot of the things the Denon's do well. The soundstage is cohesive with good seperation of instruments, but is to narrow for my tastes. At times the midrange seems a little recessed too. For comparison the DT-880's have a very wide soundstage presentaion and walk away for the D5000's for acoustic or live music imo. The Beyers can tend to have a metalic quality though. I have owned many of the top tier headphones(L3000, HD650, DT880, Omega II, RS-1, SA5000, Ath W5000 etc.) and can't really find "the one". Perhaps I never will. Hey what about the GS1000? Here we go again...

What's your equipment anyways? Did you read MarkL's thread explaining faults with D5000 design? (just preliminary)

Anyways, D5000 midrange appears recessed at some frequencies, but its not a huge issue. The perception of small soundstage you get though is weird, because if anything, it definitely was not all that narrow. What amp/source are you using, as that would have alot of influence on what you are getting with Denons.
