Granted the price of the old ones is nicer. But would you say they made an improvement on the newer versions or just a slightly different signature sound?

There is no improvement in sound. The warmer tuning doesn't quite click with me the way the original did. Still a great sounding headphone.
I own both and have been comparing them a lot recently on different gear. The 2022 is better IMHO.... that being said, it misses that mid bass excitement and treble sparkle of the OG. I have tried to EQ that into the 2022 and just can't (seems to be a mechanical limitation of the 2022).
I'm going to be keeping the 2022 though. It's timbre and naturalness is far better than the OG to my ears. Just gonna miss out on the fun factor that the OG has in the mid-bass and treble sparkle.
