i posted this in the D-25s review thread, but it got overlooked. If i rig up a battery pack with 3 AA batteries, 4.5v, directly into the battery terminals instead of into the AC adapter jack, will the extra .5v hurt the cd player?

Probably not. If you have rechargeables (Nicads or Ni-Mh), they will not hurt it for sure, since they only have 1.2-1.25 V. I would recommend rechargeables since alkalines are not going to last long with this player - this will save you a bunch in the long run.

You might want to try this, first. Radio Shack has a 4 AA charger that is also an AC adapter, with selectable output voltage, including 9V, and it can also be used as a battery pack, running a portable off of the NiMH or NiCADs it charged when it was plugged in. #273-1900 for $39.99. It uses AdaptaPlugs, and "M" fits the D-25S.

So the Radio Shack adapter will output 9V when you use it as a battery pack? Is the output voltage selectable with the battery pack?

The converter/charger information says it uses 4 AA batteries, and will allow you to select 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.5, or 9 V at the output, with up to 6 W max. The catalog page is 387, and the website has the same info. I found 1800 mAH NiMH AA batteries at the Thomas Distributing site, and an Alltek charger, but almost went for the RS toy...
